In Greene County district court Randy Isaiah Johnson, 26, of Carroll was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- second offense. The jail sentence was suspended and he was placed on unsupervised probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Johnson was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $125 Law Enforcement Initiative surcharge, $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees, and $60 court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)
Neal W. Schoon, 56, of Bayard was sentenced to two days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault- simple, amended from domestic abuse assault impeding blood/ air flow. He must pay sheriff’s room and board charges for the time he serves. He was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge. Court costs were $197.58. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Roderick Alan Klampe II, 28, of Carroll was sentenced to 60 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of carrying weapons. All but seven days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. Klampe was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge of a charge of criminal mischief- fourth degree. He must also pay $500 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs.
John Henry Sabus, 44, of Churdan was sentenced to one year in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of domestic abuse assault impeding normal breathing, amended from domestic abuse assault impeding air/ blood flow causing bodily injury. All but 14 days of the jail time was suspended and he was placed on probation for two years. He must complete the Iowa domestic abuse program, and he must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Sabus was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge; both were suspended. He must pay a $100 domestic abuse surcharge and $171.50 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)
Amelia Marie Kennedy, 34, of Jefferson was sentenced to two years in prison after she changed her plea to guilty to one count of child endangerment. The prison term was suspended and she was placed on probation for one year. She was fined $625 with a $218.75 surcharge. On a charge of possession of methamphetamine Kennedy was sentenced to one year in jail; the jail term was suspended. She must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at her own expense. She was fined $325 with a $113.75 surcharge, a $10 surcharge for drug abuse resistance education (DARE) and a $125 LEI surcharge. Two counts of child endangerment and a charge of possession of marijuana were dismissed. Kennedy must pay $600 restitution for her court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. James Michael Gorman, 50, of New York, NY, was sentenced to two days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. He must pay sheriff’s room and board costs for the time he serves. He must also complete a community college drinking drivers school. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the drinking drivers school and the jail time. Gorman was fined $1,250 with a $437.50 surcharge and a $10 DARE surcharge. On a charge of possession of marijuana Gorman was sentenced to two days in jail; the jail time was suspended and he was placed on informal probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He was fined $315 with a $110.25 surcharge, a $10 DARE surcharge and a $125 LEI surcharge. Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignment as follows: Matthew James Merical, 26, of Victor, possession of methamphetamine, OWI- second offense and driving while license revoked; Benjamin Anthony Allen, 29, of Jefferson, theft- second degree; Justin Harvey, 18, of Grand Junction, criminal mischief- fourth degree (four counts); John Taylor Roberts, 20, of Grand Junction, criminal mischief- fourth degree (four counts); and Johnnie Richard Phipps, 38, of Ames, driving while license barred, possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense, and child endangerment. Trial dates were set for Oct. 1 in every case.
Information is available since the return of an arrest warrant that Curtis Wesley Jurgensen, 56, of Woodward is charged with possession of marijuana- second offense. The warrant was issued Feb. 14 and returned July 22.
Cases were initiated as follows: Shawn Allen Ellsbury, 51, of Boone, harassment- first degree; and Ronald Lynn Becker, 48, of Boone, driving while license barred and eluding.
